Peter BARCROFT

Peter Barcroft, an Irish National and Permanent Resident of the United States of America, holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from University of Dublin, Trinity College, Ireland (1st Class Hons.) and a Masters in International and Comparative Law (LL.M) from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C and is admitted to practice as a Solicitor/Attorney in Ireland. Mr. Barcroft has previously worked in private practice with a prominent Dublin law firm, as a Consultant for the World Bank for 2 years in Washington, D.C. as well as spending a semester as a Visiting Lecturer in International Trade Law and International Organizations at Australia National University (ANU) in Canberra. Prior to joining Parliamentarians for Global Action in 2004, Mr. Barcroft was an Assistant Legal Adviser with the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Ireland, assigned to the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the United Nations in New York from 2000-2004, including during Ireland's previous tenure as a non-permanent Member of the UN Security Council in 2001-2002. Mr. Barcroft has published previously in the American Journal of International Law, the International Journal of Refugee Law (Oxford University Press) and Butterworth's Journal of International Banking and Financial Law.  At Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA), Mr. Barcroft is currently Senior Director of PGA's International Peace and Security Program, overseeing the Program's International Parliamentary Campaigns to (1) Promote Biological Security and Health, including universality and implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention and implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) (2) Promote Nuclear and Radiological Security (3) Address the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons and Promotion of Universality and Implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty as well as its Global Parliamentary Cybersecurity Initiative. and, more recently, PGA's Global Parliamentary Initiative on Responsible Artificial Intelligence.
