Matthew David Watson is a Cybercrime Investigation Expert for UNODC, currently based at the Regional Centre for Combatting Cybercrime in Doha, Qatar. He previously held the title of Regional Advisor for Transnational Organised Crime and Cybercrime for the Pacific, where he covered the 14 Pacific Island Countries from the UNODC office in Fiji.
Matthew’s background comes from a career focused on forensic science, where he specialised in blood spatter, glass, and fire investigation. He transitioned this skillset and forensic knowledge to digital forensics after some years and began supporting the 43 Forces of England and Wales at improving digital forensic processes nationally in the UK. This including assisting with ISO accreditation, standardization, and victim-centric approaches.
Shortly prior to joining UNODC, Matthew was a forensic and policing lecturer for the University of East London, where he trained junior officers in policing strategy. Now in his current position at the regional center in Doha, Matthew brings this career path into his trainings, where he delivers ransomware, cryptocurrency tracing, digital forensics, and other cyber related investigation courses regionally, as well as globally.
