Between 14-16 March 2023, the iPROCEEDS-2 project organised the Domestic simulation exercise on effective sharing of data between cybersecurity and cybercrime communities back-to-back with the Workshop on cybercrime and cybersecurity trends as well as for criminal justice statistics in Podgorica, Montenegro.
First of a series of activities to be delivered in the region, the simulation exercise focused thematically on the co-operation between the cybersecurity community and the law enforcement authorities in the investigation of a ransomware attack orchestrated by a criminal organisation. Held in an active learning format, the exercise contributed to the developing of practical skills for investigation of ransomware cases, inter-agency co-operation and real time information exchange between cybercrime and cybersecurity professionals.
The Workshop on cybercrime and cybersecurity trends and statistics introduced the participants to the role of statistics, the international standards, procedures and guides for collecting and processing of relevant cybercrime information. The activity continued with open debates on existing reporting mechanisms for cybercrime offences and provided recommendations and practical steps to enhance the effectiveness of collecting statistics.
The iPROCEEDS-2 project will continue to support priority countries/area to develop the practical skills of criminal justice practitioners on inter-agency co-operation, information exchange and effective use of statistics.
