From 9 May to 17 June, 58 criminal investigators and analysts working on cybercrime, organised crime and/or money laundering from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Fiji, the Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Philippines, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka and Tonga participated in a small private online course on Fundamentals of Open-Source Investigation (FOSI) organised by INTERPOL, as an implementing partner of the GLACY+ Project.
FOSI is a training course designed and delivered by INTERPOL to reinforce the crime response capabilities of member countries. It aims to increase law enforcement investigator’s skills and abilities to conduct open-source investigations in a safe and efficient manner, given the ever-increasing volume of data available for public consumption and the challenges and threats that it creates.
By the end of the course, participants had gained better understanding of several FOSI-related topics such as metadata search, personal identity investigation, phone number and email account research, social media research, geospatial research, and mapping. They also had the chance to attend a number of live webinars with leading OSINT/ SOCMINT experts. Contributors to the course included law enforcement agencies, private sectors professionals and social media companies.
INTERPOL plans to develop French and Spanish versions of the FOSI course in the near future. More GLACY+ project countries will be invited to attend these courses.
