CyberSouth+: Pilot judicial training on cybercrime and electronic evidence for judges and prosecutors in Egypt

The CyberSouth+ project, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Justice, successfully delivered the pilot of its foundational judicial training module on cybercrime and electronic evidence in Cairo. The event, attended by 33 judges and prosecutors from key judicial bodies, marks a milestone in enhancing Egypt’s capacity to address cybercrime.

In September 2025, the project, together with a national working group of experts, contributed to developing a national modular judicial training structure. This includes a foundational core course, which is complemented by topic-specific modules, all tailored to align with Egypt’s national legislation and international standards.

The pilot delivery of this core module, held from 2 to 5 February 2026, focused on cybercrime threats, international cooperation, electronic evidence, and the Budapest Convention. Delivered by national trainers with support from a Council of Europe international expert, the course also featured a practical mock trial, allowing participants to apply the learned concepts in a real-world context.

CyberSouth+ will continue to support Egypt’s judicial sector by strengthening the national pool of trainers in cybercrime and electronic evidence, ensuring the sustainability and long-term impact of these initiatives.
