On 11-12 February 2025, the CyberSouth+ joint initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe, supported the delivery of a hands-on training on investigating Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (OCSEA) in Algiers, Algeria.
Designed as an interactive learning experience, the training empowered participants to engage in practical exercises and discussions that reflected real-world challenges in investigating online child sexual abuse and exploitation (OCSEA) cases. Topics covered included the identification of victims and offenders when previously unknown OCSEA material is discovered, the legal procedures for obtaining information from international service providers, and the specific requirements for conducting victim interviews. These practical discussions not only addressed technical and legal aspects but also encouraged participants to share insights, further enhancing their collective understanding and skills in combating online child sexual abuse and exploitation.
The training was developed in response to the keen interest expressed during the Regional Workshop on OCSEA Reporting and Follow-Up, held in Rome on 28-29 November 2024, where participants from various CyberSouth+ countries emphasized the need for more specialised capacity-building initiatives.
This event underscores CyberSouth+’s commitment to fostering effective collaboration across borders and enhancing the regional response to OCSEA. Given the interest in enhancing knowledge and skills on the topic, the training will soon be extended to other countries participating in the CyberSouth+ initiative, continuing to strengthen the response to child exploitation in the online environment.
