Cybercrime

Over 30 representatives of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, of the Prosecutor General’s Office and of the Ministry of Internal Affairs actively participated in a training on financial investigations, virtual currencies and Darknet, held between 2-4 October in Yerevan, Armenia. The exercise  was organised by CyberEast+, a joint venture of the Council of Europe and of the European Union, in co-operation with the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

This training was a follow up requested by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia after a workshop on legal mechanisms for conducting effective financial and cybercrime investigations, conducted in May 2024.

The course addressed the matters of financial investigations and intelligence, financial fraud and money laundering offences, as well as the handling of virtual currencies and Darknet in criminal investigations, based on the specific experience and context of Armenia. Participants increased their knowledge by also engaging in a series of practical exercises – tailored to real-life cases from Armenia – based on the “follow the money” approach in investigating cybercrime and related offences, in line with the tools of the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention) and of the Second Additional Protocol to the Cybercrime Convention on enhanced co-operation and disclosure of electronic evidence.

The CyberEast+ project is committed to continue strengthening the capacities of Armenian authorities by supporting further learning and exchange on parallel financial cybercrime investigations.
