A Cybercrime Breakfast for Permanent Representations was held at the Council of Europe on 21 November 2024 to discuss the impact and continued relevance of the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention), its First protocol on xenophobia an racism and its Second Protocol on electronic evidence. Participants also discussed the recent agreement by the United Nations Ad Hoc Committee on the draft United Nations Convention against cybercrime and its interplay with for the framework of the Budapest Convention.
The session was opened by Bjørn Berge, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, followed by a presentation by Alexander Seger, Executive Secretary of the Cybercrime Convention Committee (T-CY) and followed by questions and interventions by permanent representatives. The meeting was concluded by Gianluca Esposito, Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law.
The breakfast was a good opportunity to highlight the work of the Cybercrime Convention Committee (T-CY) and the Cybercrime Programme Office of the Council of Europe (C-PROC), both of which are instrumental to ensuring that the framework of the Budapest Convention remains the most relevant and trusted framework for cooperation on cybercrime and electronic evidence in the years to come.
