Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

The Reflection Day “CEFR Companion Volume: Enhancing engagement in language education” was held online on 15 June 2023 with 40 invited experts on language education policy, curriculum design and teacher education from over 20 countries in Europe and beyond.  The main aims of the meeting were to build on the enormous interest in the CEFR Companion Volume and gain a better picture of how innovation inspired by the Companion Volume is occurring and what next steps might be taken to reinforce a shift from conventional language teaching to genuinely action-oriented, plurilingual and intercultural language education, as well as to address certain misunderstandings and misrepresentations regarding the CEFR Companion Volume, the CEFR project, and plurilingualism.
