Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, Mr Miguel de Serpa Soares, provided the CAHDI with an overview of selected issues currently being dealt with by the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs. In his presentation, the Legal Counsel Mr Serpa Soares focused on the topic of accountability in South Sudan, the issue of sexual exploitation and abuse in the context of peacekeeping operations, and in particular the mission in the Central African Republic, and recent questions related to the topical issue of immunities enjoyed by the United Nations, in particular against the backdrop of the outbreak of cholera in Haiti.
