North-South Centre

The European Centre for Global Interdependence and Solidarity of the Council of Europe – more commonly known as the “North-South Centre”  – was set up in Lisbon with the purpose to spread the universal values upheld by the Council of Europe  – human rights, democracy and the rule of law - beyond the European continent.

Balkan Regional Seminar on Global Development Education 2017

The Balkan Regional Seminar on Global Development Education will take place on the 30 and 31 October in Belgrade, Serbia, in the  framework of  the  Joint  Programme between  the  European  Union  (EU)  and the  Council of Europe to promote Global Development Education (GDE) in new EU member States and candidate countries: iLEGEND. More

 

North-South Centre presents its work at the conference Educate for Dialogue

The North-South Centre presented the work of the Council of Europe and of the North-South Centre in the field of Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education and in the field of Global Education at the conference Educate for Dialogue, which took place in Piran on 9 and 10 October.

Following the launching of the Anna Lindh Foundation Handbook on Intercultural Citizenship Education in the EuroMed Region, to which the North-South Centre contributed, the conference aimed at showcasing, practices, debating and advocating for Intercultural Citizenship Education, while offering a set of recommendations for governments, schools, trainers and formal and non-formal educators in terms of policy development and pedagogical support. The event was organised by the Anna Lindh Foundation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia and the Euro-Mediterranean University.


YOUTH COOPERATION

 

Exchange of views at the 37th meeting of the Joint Council on Youth of the Council of Europe

On 17th October the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe takes part in an exchange of views in Strasbourg with the representatives of the Joint Council on Youth. More

 

 

 

18th University on Youth and Development: “Developing Global Identities”
An annual event since the year 2000, this year’s edition of the University on Youth and Development gathered a total of 230 participants from civil society organisations, national governments and local and regional authorities coming from almost 58 different nationalities to exchange ideas and practices in an open dialogue around the flagship theme: ‘Developing Global Identities. EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN

Workshop: Strengthening capacities of women organisations

Next 25 October, the North-South Centre is organising a workshop on “strengthening capacities of women organisations” in Amman, Jordan. The workshop will bring together expertise on women´s rights and gender equality and encourage exchanges of best practices from different countries of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region and Europe. More

 

North-South Centre of the Council of Europe promotes gender equality through workshop on decision making and peacekeeping processes

The North-South Centre organised a workshop on breaking stereotypes and raise awareness on the role of women in the global challenges. Two experts in women rights issues, Soumeya Lerari and Jennifer Philippa Eggert addressed participants of the UYD about the “Gender equality perspective in defining global identities”. More

 

Training of Experts on the Human Rights-based approach in Combating Violence against Women

From the 12 to the 14 of July, in the framework of its programme on Women Empowerment, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe organised a training session on the Council of Europe tools and methodologies. More
