Preparatory Meeting of the 17th edition of the University on Youth and Development

On 15-16 June partners of the 17th UYD gathered in the CEULAJ (Mollina, Spain) to prepare for the upcoming edition of the University on Youth and Development that will take place from 18-25 September, also in Mollina.

The 17th edition will gather around 8 different capacity-building activities organized by different partners such as Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions (OBESSU), European Youth Forum (YFJ), AEGEE-Europe (European Students’ Forum), International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), Youth for Exchange and Understanding (YEU), the Spanish National Youth Council (CJE) and the Spanish Youth Institute (INJUVE). All partners were present at the preparatory meeting.

In 2016, the University on Youth and Development will celebrate its 17th edition, under the joint theme “Connecting Identities!” This year’s theme would allow us to reflect on how youth organisations and youth work can accompany young people in such sensitive and meaningful processes of identity construction that ultimately define them as citizens and global citizens. We invite you to read through our concept note.

The UYD is an activity organised by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe (NSC) in partnership with the Spanish Government (INJUVE), the European Youth Forum (YFJ), the Spanish Youth Council (CJE) and other international youth organisations and youth serving organisations. Since its first edition in 2000, the University takes place once a year bringing together representatives of youth organisations and youth movements from all over the world who gather in CEULAJ (Euro-Latin-American Youth Centre), that was recently awarded Council of Europe’s Quality Label for Youth Centres The UYD is part of the Network of Universities on Youth and Global Citizenship; a platform facilitated by the North South Centre of the Council of Europe that gathers youth partners from all over the world in an effort to develop a coordinated system of capacity-building activities that contribute to strengthen the interregional and global youth co-operation.

The topic will also contribute to the fifth cycle of structured dialogue with youth people in the Trio Presidency (the Netherlands-Slovakia-Malta) between January 2016 and June 2017 “Enabling all young people to engage in a diverse, connected and inclusive Europe - Ready for life, Ready for society” and the Council of Europe’s Action Plan on Building Inclusive Societies (2016-2019).
