Back Network of experts debates in Lisbon the challenges of the democratic transition in Tunisia

To mark the fifth anniversary of the Tunisian revolution the North-South Centre, the Tunisian Embassy and the Diplomatic Institute gathered their network of experts, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, on the 18th of April, to debate the key issues of democracy, security and development and offer support to the democratic transition process underway.

Organised in collaboration with the embassies of France, Germany and Netherlands in Portugal, the main purpose of this event was to mobilise different actors at multilateral, regional and bilateral levels, advocates of the democratic values and principles to offer substantial and collective support to respond to the challenges that Tunisia faces today.

Established with the purpose of promoting dialogue between the North and the South and foster solidarity and global interdependence, the North-South Centre fulfils a dual political role of representing "the voice of the South" within the Council of Europe and of promoting and transmitting the values of democracy and human rights that are central to the Council of Europe's mission in neighbouring regions.
