New HELP course on refugee and migrant children

The Council of Europe is going to launch a new HELP training course for legal professionals working with refugee and migrant children. The course will contain 7 modules: Introduction of the International and European legal Framework; Child-Friendly Procedures; Alternatives to detention; Family Reunification; Social Rights and Integration; and Guardianship and Age assessment. In preparation of the course, a HELP Training-of-Trainers (ToT) session was organised on 24-25 May 2018. Twenty-two judges and lawyers from 11 European countries participated in the training which aimed at equipping them with the necessary practical skills to effectively implement HELP online courses in their countries of origin. Participants who will complete the final ToT assignments will be certified as HELP tutors. The training session was opened by Tomáš Boček, the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Migration and Refugees, and Eva Pastrana, Head of HELP Unit. This course was developed as follow-up to the country reports of the Special Representative and his Thematic Report on migrant and refugee children. It is equally an important contribution to the implementation of the Action Plan on protecting refugee and migrant children in Europe. The course will also be open to other professionals working with children in migration and it will be ready this summer. The course is scheduled to be adapted for Turkish, Spanish, Italian and Greek national systems and translated into those languages. All HELP training courses are based on the Council of Europe HELP Programme and the HELP training methodology.
