MEDIA ADVISORY: Agency for Prevention of Corruption equipped to control electoral campaigns

Two methodologies for more effective control of Agency for Prevention of Corruption in electoral campaigns have been developed by the joint European Union and Council of Europe Action against economic crime in Montenegro. The workshop for representatives of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and civil society organisations involved in election monitoring will be held on 29-30 June 2020, at the Hotel Hilton, Bulevar Svetog Petra Cetinjskog 2, Podgorica.

Introductory remarks will be given by:

  • Savo Milašinović, a.i. Director of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption
  • Ana Nenezić, Executive director of the Centre for Monitoring and Research – CeMI
  • Vanja Ćalović, Executive Director of the Network for Affirmation of NGO Sector - MANS
  • Biljana Papović, Executive Director of Center for Democratic Transition
  • Ana Selić, Senior Project Officer, Council of Europe Programme Office in Podgorica

Misuse of party funds and abuse of state resources for electoral purposes are the core issues undermining the transparency, freedom and fairness of elections, compromising the principles of free vote and equal chances of electoral participants and using coercion of most vulnerable groups in order to manipulate results of elections. The two methodologies ensure adequate technical preconditions for efficient implementation of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption’s control functions over electoral campaigns by complementing the previously developed instruments for risk analysis, information system for data processing and guidelines for public authorities on prevention of abuse of state resources.

The workshop will begin on 29 June 2020 at 9.30am and media are welcome to cover the opening panel. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.

Precautionary measures related to Covid-19 will be respected and masks available for all media representatives.

The workshops will be organised within the Action against economic crime in Montenegro, a part of the EU/Council of Europe joint programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”, funded by the EU and the Council of Europe and implemented by Economic Crime and Co-operation Division of Council of Europe.
