The last Congress of FUEN, the Federal Union of European Nationalities, held in Bratislava in the Slovak Republic, from 12 to 14 June 2019, was the occasion to celebrate the 70th anniversary of this non-governmental organisation established in conjunction with the creation of the Council of Europe in 1949. FUEN now has participatory status at the Council of Europe. The representatives of the Sub-committee on the Rights of Minorities in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe along with the representative of Secretariat of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages participated in the debates on the future of the defense of the rights of national and linguistic minorities in Europe. The new system of monitoring of the Charter, to be operational as from 1 July 2019, was also presented.
