50 teachers from the Montengrin central region cluster of pilot schools participated in the “Learning about democracy and human rights through lesson planning, teaching and learning methods” workshop, last 29 March 2018 in Podgorica. It is the third in a series of four workshops organised for teachers of 26 pilot primary and secondary schools divided into four clusters according to territorial criteria.
It provided a forum for interactive presentations and discussions on how to prepare a class that will tackle competences for a democratic culture. Particular interest was placed on sessions that considered a cross-curricular approach to such competences, as well as working with annual work programmes and day-to-day class preparation to better teach pupils about democracy and human rights. Through group exercises, participants were able to examine competences for a democractic culture in their work environment, brainstorm, and offer ideas for future activities. All sessions were facilitated and led by an experienced national trainer and a local coordinator.
The event also provided a good opportunity for networking amongst teachers of pilot schools from the central region cluster.
Attendees' feedback included praise for the trainers and their ability to present the content in an understandable and participative way. Other positive comments pointed out the excellent organisation of the event.
The workshop was organised as part of the European Union/Council of Europe Action “Fostering a democratic school culture in Montenegro”, under the Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey.
