HELP online course on Violence against women and domestic violence was launched in the context of the human rights clinical education in Montenegro on 21 September 2022. The new generation of law students involved in the legal clinic will have a chance to attend the online course developed by the Council of Europe Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP).

The Course is aimed at further capacity building of the young generation of lawyers in Montenegro. It covers the key concepts, the international and European legal framework and case-law governing prevention and protection of women and girls from violence, focusing in particular on the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention). Furthermore, the course provides the legal professionals with practical tools for dealing with cases of violence against women and domestic violence with respect to a human rights and victim-centred approach.

The course will be attended by 35 law students, who will, with tutors’ assistance, broaden their knowledge about relevant international standards safeguarding the rights of victims of domestic violence over the period of three months. The participants who successfully complete the course will receive HELP certificates issued by the Council of Europe.

The human rights legal clinic was established with the support of the action "Improved procedural safeguards in judicial proceedings in Montenegro", that is a part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
