“It is our belief that the Observatory provides a good opportunity to reinforce co-operation in the field of history education, by facilitating the exchange of information and good practices between member states, in line with the Council of Europe’s values”
stated M Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine in his letter addressing the OHTE Governing Board.
This rejoicing development follows the visit of a delegation composed of senior civil servants and experts within the Ministry of Education and Sciences in Ukraine in March of this year, during which positive prospects towards Ukraine’s membership to the Observatory on History Teaching in Europe were already evoked.
“The accession of Ukraine to the OHTE Observer status, is a highly important symbol and a mark of Ukrainian authorities’ trust in our values and work.”
said M Alain Lamassoure, Chair of the OHTE Governing Board.
Ukraine joins the Observatory on History Teaching in Europe at a crucial moment in its first years of existence – its first Thematic report was published in 2022, while the first OHTE General Report on the state of history teaching in Europe will be issued by the end of 2023.
The importance of enlarging the Observatory’s membership was highlighted on numerous occasions, including during OHTE’s Annual Conferences.
