Building on the achievements and progress made since the regional workshop held in Rabat, in April 2019, a national workshop on the situation (annual) report on cybercrime and electronic evidence in Algeria was organised on-line, on the 17th of February 2021.

The Algerian authorities had the opportunity to get acquainted with the national cybercrime threats and trends, and to identify strategies and policies for fighting cybercrime and dealing with electronic evidence. Since cybercrime is a transversal issue, with impact on other crime areas, the role of a strategic approach was also underlined. The experts explained more on the national cybercrime strategy and on the annual situation report, providing recommendations on its components and actors.

Representatives from the Algerian Ministry of Justice – judges and prosecutors, Ministry of Internal Affairs - General Directorate for National Security (DGSN), Ministry of National Defense, National Gendarmerie, and the Research Centre for Scientific and Technical Information (CERIST) attended this meeting. The participants shared the progress achieved in the development of the national institutions and policies / strategies on preventing and fighting against cybercrime.

This workshop has increased the Algerian authorities' knowledge of international instruments and standards for combatting cybercrime and allowed them to comprehend more about the importance of a national strategic approach on the topic. The project CyberSouth’s support in assisting Algeria in this endeavour was underlined and the authorities reinforced their commitment in the prevention and fight against cybercrime.
