Hon. Parinda Ranasinghe (Jnr). President’s Counsel, was appointed as the 32nd Attorney-General of Sri Lanka He has been serving the Attorney-General’s Department for the last 33 years, having joined the Attorney-General’s Department in the year 1993 as a State Counsel.
He went onto hold the posts of State Counsel, Senior State Counsel, Deputy Solicitor General, Additional Solicitor General and Senior Additional Solicitor General. He served as the Head of Civil Division of the Attorney-General’s Department having overall supervision of Civil litigation, including Fundamental Rights and Writ Applications. He is also an experienced criminal prosecutor who had served in various parts of the country and as an appellate counsel in the Court of Criminal Appeal. He has wide experience in Civil and Criminal litigation with regular appearances in the Superior Court and Court of Appeal.
He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Maritime Law from the International Maritime Law Institute, University of Malta and a Master of Laws (LLM) majoring in Environmental Law, National University of Singapore (NUS) where he researched on climate change and developing countries. He also holds a post graduate Diploma in Forensic Medicine and Science from Medical Faculty of University of Colombo.
Hon. Parinda Ranasinghe (Jnr) P.C has represented the Government of Sri Lanka as Head of delegation in several bilateral negotiations on Mutual Legal Assistance, Extradition and Prisoner Transfer Agreements with States including UAE, China, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, The Philippines and Poland. He was also a member of the Sri Lankan delegation at the Treaty negations on the Conservation and Sustainable use of Marine Bio-diversity of areas Beyond National Jurisdiction. (BBNJ) at the UN in New York. He is a member of the National Ocean Affairs Committee of Sri Lanka (NOAC) on the Delimitation of its Continental Shelf under the UNCLOS and headed the Legal Sub Committee thereof. At present, he sits as a member of the Law Commission of Sri Lanka and the Council of Legal Education of Sri Lanka.
He had his primary and secondary education at Royal College, Colombo.
