Pablo Maristany de las Casas is an analyst at ISD Germany investigating information threat actors targeting EU and NATO countries and their links to far-right and conspiracy networks.
His research focuses on foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) targeting electoral processes and exploiting key events through manipulated and misleading information. He has investigated the tactics, techniques and procedures used in influence operations across social media platforms, as well as the effectiveness of European sanctions on Russian state media and the methods used to circumvent them, drawing on social listening and domain investigation techniques. His work has also explored how often leading chatbots cite sanctioned, state-attributed and influence-operation-linked sources, as well as the German far right’s use of generative AI.
Pablo’s expertise has been featured in WIRED, SPIEGEL, BBC, FRANCE 24 and RTVE, among others. In 2024, he was a main-session speaker at the Octopus Conference. Before joining ISD, he conducted open-source research for Amnesty International’s Evidence Lab and founded and led a chapter of its Digital Verification Corps at the Hertie School, his alma mater.
