Ms Monika Kopcheva is Head of “Security in the digital Age” Unit within the European Commission (DG Home) leading the development and implementation of EU policy on the prevention and fight against cybercrime and child sexual abuse, access to e-evidence and encrypted data for criminal investigation purposes, data retention as well as the collaboration between EU governments and service providers within the EU Internet Forum to address the challenges posed by malicious and illegal content online.
Prior to joining the European Commission in 2025, Ms Kopcheva was Head of Information Security in the Council of the EU after 10 years dedicated to the development of the EU Cyber Policy, covering matters related to law enforcement and judicial cooperation in the fight against cybercrime.
Ms Kopcheva holds a Ph.D. in Cybercrime, Executive MA in Cybersecurity Management, MA in Human Rights and LLM in International law and International relations.
