Jamila Akaaga ADE

Jamila Akaaga Ade is a lawyer, certified arbitrator, management consultant and a corporate governance professional with 20years post-call experience. She has a wide range of experience: cybercrime legislation and capacity building, civil litigation, tourism and national orientation, international and comparative law, corrections reform, marine & environmental law, international asset recovery, corporate governance and alternative dispute resolutions. In her years of service, she has been privileged to serve in various capacities which include: Legal Assistant to one-time Honorable Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation (2007); Pioneer Head of Legal Services, National Agency for the Great Green Wall (2014) and Personal Assistant to the erstwhile Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice (2020). She is a Deputy Director/Head Cybercrime Unit, Department of Public Prosecutions at the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Justice, a position she has held since 2022.

In her current role as the Head of Cybercrime Unit, Jamila is Nigeria’s TCY (Budapest Convention on Cybercrime Committee) Representative and was a former Bureau Member; GLACYe (Global Action on Cybercrime Enhanced) National Coordinator; Co-Chair of the Diplomacy and Capacity Building Working Group of the International Counter Ransomware Initiative (CRI); Member, Cybercrime Advisory Council, Prevent Advisory Board and Federal Justice Sector Reform Coordination Committee (FJSRCC).

Jamila was on the Her Cyber Track Fellowship, was an EU Cyber Diplomacy Fellow and currently is a Commonwealth Africa Cyber Experts Fellow. She has represented Nigeria at international forums including the negotiations of the Adhoc Committee on Cybercrimes that led to the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime.

As a collaboration enthusiast, Jamila has led collaborative efforts in the fight against cybercrime which led to the establishment of the Joint Case Team on Cybercrimes in Nigeria (an inter-agency collaboration).

She is a WiCys Nigeria Affiliate advisor, and belongs a number of other regional Groups that advance the role of women in cyber.
