Back iPROCEEDS-2: Last workshop on improving information sharing and cooperation between CERT and LEA

Online, North Macedonia ,

Cybercrime is currently one of the fastest-growing areas of crime. Numbers do not show the complete picture though, as only a small number of cyber-related crimes are reported to law enforcement agencies (LEA).

In this context, developing an integrated approach to tackling the threats from the internet and associated technology in the form of protocols for crisis situations, procedures on sharing of data by Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) with criminal justice authorities in the South East Europe and Turkey is among the priorities of the iPROCEEDS-2 project.

CERTs/CSIRTs play an important role in preventing cyber-attacks and overall coordinate responses at national level. They may facilitate the reporting of cybercrimes, sharing of technical information on ongoing or past attacks and in securing electronic evidence. It is therefore essential that CERTs and criminal justice authorities put in place an efficient and effective collaboration mechanism, where roles, responsibilities and segregation of duties are defined and agreed upon.

To help authorities to respond to these challenges, the iPROCEEDS-2 project organised the last workshop in a series, for North Macedonian authorities with the aim to further enhance the existing capabilities of the North Macedonian CIRT and LEA and to ensure future cooperation through secured channels. The workshops provided the perfect ground for gathering the necessary information for the development of complex guidelines on sharing of data by MKD-CIRT with criminal justice authorities.
