GLACY-e and Octopus Projects: The first pool of national judicial trainers of Brazil finalise the training programme on cybercrime and electronic evidence

A group of 19 prosecutors from several regions of Brazil underwent the advanced training course on cybercrime and electronic evidence from 8 to 12 April 2024, at the Prosecutor's Office in São Paulo.

The course was organised by the Federal Public Ministry of Brazil with the support of the GLACY-e and Octopus projects, aiming at reinforcing the pool of national trainers able to pass on their knowledge on cybercrime and e-evidence to their peers and to enhance therefore the country’s criminal justice response.

The training programme has begun with an introductory course, which took place online from 29 February to 8 March 2024 and followed with an advanced module that included both theoretical and practical sessions, with a fictive criminal case meant to take the trainees through the various phases of investigation, trial process and adjudication so that they acquire new practical skills while making use of the international cooperation mechanisms provided by the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention).

The Council of Europe will continue providing support by facilitating the organisation of a training skills course for this group of trainers aiming to enable them to deliver such trainings themselves.

By having this approach, the sustainability of the training programme in Brazil will be ensured and judges will benefit from similar training programme in the coming months.
