From 22 to 23 October 2024, the CyberSEE Project organised the Regional workshop on strategies and practices of judicial training on cybercrime and electronic evidence in Istanbul, Türkiye.
The workshop brought together representatives from justice academies, national trainers, judges, and prosecutors from the project countries, aiming to strengthen the capacities of judicial training institutions and mainstream the training programmes on cybercrime and electronic evidence.
The event served as a platform for sharing knowledge and good practices among the participants, as well as for presenting existing resources and current training programs and explore solutions for integrating modules on cybercrime and electronic evidence into their curricula.
During the event, participants were introduced to various tools, including the Council of Europe's Guide for training strategies on cybercrime and electronic evidence, the CYBOX platform set-up under the Octopus Project and training materials on cybercrime developed by ECTEG. There was a shared agreement on the importance of developing long-term training programmes based on a self-sustained approach that includes also building and maintaining cohesive national pools of trainers.
The workshop facilitated the participants to gain a clearer understanding of the judicial training needs, outlined domestic priorities and expressed strong interest in exchanging experiences and good practices within the region and beyond. In addition, side meetings were held aimed at discussing the implementation or updating of cybercrime and electronic evidence training in the curricula of the judicial training institutions.
The CyberSEE Project will continue to enhance the capabilities of criminal justice authorities in the region by supporting a sustainable and effective approach to training on cybercrime and electronic evidence.
