From 25 to 29 November 2024, the joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe, CyberSEE, in cooperation with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) supported the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies (UCIPS) in Serbia to organise a Regional training on basic cybercrime investigation skills in Belgrade, Serbia.
Hosted at the UCIPS premises, the training enhanced the skills of junior law enforcement officers from Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria in investigating cybercrime and handling electronic evidence. Moreover, the training provided essential knowledge to understand the basics of the Internet and the cybercrime ecosystem, along with techniques and good practices for conducting effective investigations.
Held in an interactive format, the training walked the participants through real case studies and exercises on topics such as darknet investigations, anonymity, cryptocurrencies, open-source investigations (OSINT) and online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA). The sessions included active debates and the sharing of good practices in view of promoting cooperation between law enforcement authorities in the region.
The Council of Europe, through the CyberSEE project, remains dedicated to supporting the law enforcement authorities in South-East Europe in enhancing their capacities on cybercrime investigations and strengthening global cooperation in combating cybercrime.
