The Steering Committee meeting of the KoSEJ Action took place on 13 December 2018 in Pristina. This was an opportunity to discuss openly with beneficiaries and partners the activities and results of the KoSEJ Action so far and envisage the months ahead as the last period of the Action approaches (May 2019). KoSEJ beneficiaries acknowledged the importance to regularly assess the judicial system based on the CEPEJ methodology and will take the necessary efforts to implement the recommendations made in the assessment report. Moreover, participants welcomed the assistance of the Action to the Courts and Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC) in using the CEPEJ indicators of court performance. Courts will start monitoring the length of the proceedings, which is an important step in order to identify periods of inactivity and to set, in the future, judicial timeframes. The KJC also requested further support from the Action to ensure that the statistics generated by the CMIS are in line with the CEPEJ standards and to assist them in using a proper and precise terminology. The Action will continue providing high level technical expertise on specific important issues such as the electronic assignment of cases and the performance evaluation of judges.
The Steering committee meeting was organised by the KoSEJ Action “Strengthening the quality and efficiency of justice in Kosovo*”, which is part of the programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey", co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
