MOTIVATION

As a media expert working in education and training, I continue to be fascinated by information and communication on a daily basis.

We do not know what the digital era has in store for us, but we already have an idea of its implications in our daily lives. No aspect of life seems to escape from it. Civil society is already at the heart of the transition. It is also involved in the changes. The INGOs which come together under the aegis of the Council of Europe have a pioneering part to play here and have a duty to ensure respect for human rights in the real world and the digital world. That is an ambitious goal. Will we just be spectators or will we play an active part in the process?

Globalisation and digitisation – all change generates fears and could easily cause us to call into question values that have been acquired over time. It would be wise not to turn inward but to think positively and gradually build the future.

For my part, in the current environment, it is still education and training that are the priorities. As the future guarantors of human rights, children and young people have an urgent right to additional efforts, even though we do not have control over all the factors.

As Vice-Chair of the Culture and Education Committee, I would be glad to be your spokesperson with a view to establishing sustainable practices for a society that respects our European values.
