MOTIVATION

    Born in Grivegnée (Belgium) on 2 September 1939.
    Nationality: Belgian (1939-1978) – Italian since 1978.
    Current address: Via don Minzoni 139 – 55100 Lucca (Italy).

    Studies: Degree in Physical Sciences (1961) University of Liège (Belgium).

    Scientific career
    - Researcher: Faculty of Medicine, Liège (Belgium), October 1961 – April 1970
    - Researcher: National Research Council, Pisa (Italy), April 1970 – May 2005
    - Areas of interest: molecular properties, condensed states, biophysics
    - Long stays abroad: England 1968 and USA 1984
    - Organisations: Higher education establishments and international congresses.

    Humanist activities
    - Member of the Italian association of rationalist atheists and agnostics, the UAAR, since March 2000
    - Member of the Bureau of the European Humanist Federation (EHF) from 2006 to 2011 Vice-Chair of the EHF from 2006 to 2009
    - Distribution of a Press Review based on 30 newspapers and reviews in Belgium, China, Egypt, France, Lebanon, Tunisia, the UK, the USA and press agency releases
    - Took part in the annual general meetings of the EHF and the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) between 2006 and 2013
    - Took part in the congresses of the IHEU in Washington in 2008 and Oslo in 2011
    - Member of the EHF delegation to the European Parliament and the EPPSP
    - IHEU delegate at the NGO Forum in Istanbul, March 2011
    - Since May 2011, IHEU representative to the Conference of INGOs of the Council of Europe
    - Has taken part in the general meeting of INGOs since June 2011
    - Member of the Working Group on Human Rights and Religions and observer in other working groups.
