EURIMAGES - European Cinema Support Fund


07/05/2013 - Eurimages has launched a 360° study into the performance of the Fund’s activities and, more specifically, into support requirements for cinematic co-production. Further to a call for tenders, OLSBERG – SPI, London (UK), were selected to carry out this study. Jonathan Olsberg and his team will be in Cannes during the Film Festival. In order to ensure the success of this project, the Executive Director, Mr Roberto Olla, asks that all producers who are beneficiaries of Eurimages support to kindly respond to any questions from Jonathan and his team  during the Festival. A seventh Eurimages supported film in Cannes!

29/04/2013 -  As announced at the press conference held on 18 April, the Cannes Film Festival has completed its Official Selection with the inclusion of several films amongst which the Eurimages supported co-production My Sweet Pepperland (FR, DE) by Hiner Saleem in Un Certain Regard. Seven films supported by Eurimages are now part of the various Cannes selections.


6 Eurimages supported films on the Croisette

24/04/2013 -  The official competition of the Cannes Film Festival unveiled last week, reveals a total of four co-productions supported by the Fund:
The Past (France, Italy) by Asghar Farhadi,
La Vie d’Adèle (France, Belgium, Spain) by Abdellatif Kechiche,
Borgman (the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark) by Alex van Warmerdam and
The Great Beauty/La Grande Bellezza (Italy, France) by Paolo Sorrentino.
The film Salvo (Italy, France, Germany) by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza has been selected for competition in the Critics Week while The Congress (Germany, Belgium, Poland, Luxembourg, France, Israel) by Ari Folman has been selected to open the Directors Fortnight.
You will find the Eurimages team in the European Pavilion of the International Village from 15 to 24 May 2013.

Eurimages in Istanbul

16/04/2013 -  The 32nd Istanbul Film Festival Jury rewarded two Eurimages supported films with 3 main awards:  the Golden Tulip Best Director Award went to Asli Özge for her co-production Hayatboyu/Lifelong (TR, DE, NL),  the Golden Tulip for Best Director of Photography Award was presented to Emre Erkmen for his work in the same film; the Golden Tulip Best Actor Award was given to Ercan Eksal for his performance in Yozgat Blues (TR, DE) by Mahmut Fazil Coskun.
The FACE Award presented with the co-operation of the Council of Europe and Eurimages went to Syngué Sabour/Patience Stoneby Atiq Rahimi. A Special Mention Prize in the Human Rights in Cinema Competition was presented to Epizoda u zivotu beraca zeljeza/An episode in the life of an iron picker by Danis Tanovic and Jiseul by Muel O.

28/03/2013 - With the new online application system, a paperless era begins at Eurimages. The European Cinema Support Fund for Co-Productions will no longer accept paper applications – the new system will be available on the Eurimages web site from 3 April 2013. Eurimages will also be launching a new support programme for distribution and marketing – President Jobst Plog explains why he believes that it will not work in Europe to set only one standard. 18/03/2013 -  At its 130th meeting held from 12 to 14 March 2013 in Dresden (Germany), the Board of Management of the Council of Europe's Eurimages Fund agreed to support 9 feature films, 1 animation film and 3 documentaries for co-production. (Press release)

Love from the César and Oscar awards...

25/02/2013 – Incredible week-end for the Eurimages supported co-production Love (FR, AT, DE) by Michael Haneke which entered the history of the César in Paris on Friday night with the five most important awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress (Emmanuelle Riva), Best Actor (Jean-Louis Trintignant) and Best Screenplay, just before getting the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film last night in Los Angeles. The César for Best Animation Film has been awarded to the Eurimages supported co-production Ernest et Célestine (FR, LU, BE) by Vincent Patar, Stéphane Aubier and Benjamin Renner.

 


Blancanieves triumphs at the Goya Awards...

18/02/2013 – The Eurimages supported co-production Blancanieves (ES, FR) by Pablo Berger met all expectations and triumphed at the gala for the Goya awards ceremony with a total of 10 trophies: Best Film, Best Actress in a main role (Maribel Verdu), Best Female Newcomer (Macarena Garcia), Best Original Screenplay (Pablo Berger), Best Cinematography, Best Original Soundtrack, Best Original Song, Best Art Direction (Alain Bainée), Best Costum Design, Best Make-Up and Hair-Styling. Since its first awards at the San Sebastian International Film Festival this film has been rewarded many times all over the world.

 


Eurimages in Berlin!

18/02/2013 – Eurimages Fund was very proud to see 9 of the films it has supported selected at the Berlin International Film Festival (7-17 February 2013), 3 of which were in the official competition: Paradise: Hope by Ulrich Seidl (AT, FR, DE), Layla Fourie by Pia Marais (DE, FR, NL, ZA) and The Nun by Guillaume Nicloux (FR, DE, BE). Night Train to Lisbon (DE, CH, PT) by Bille August was selected out of competition. The co-productions The Broken Circle Breakdown (BE, NL) by Felix van Groeningen, It’s all so Quiet (NL, DE) by Nanouk Leopold and Lifelong (TR, NL, DE) by Asli Ozge all premiered in the Panorama section. The film The Zigzag Kid (NL, BE) by Vincent Bal was selected in the Generation KPlus competition and Circles (RS, HR, SI, BA, DE, FR) by Srdan Golubović was be screened within the Forum selection. This latest has been awarded the Forum Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and the co-production The Broken Circle Breakdown by Felix van Groeningen received the Panorama Audience Award PPP for Best Fiction as well as the Label Europa Cinemas from the FIPRESCI Jury. Layla Fourie by Pia Marais was awarded a Special Mention by the International Jury.
Eurimages took the opportunity of this event to make a presentation of the new dematerialisation platform, which requires the on-line filing of applications for support as from the next call for projects on 22 April 2013, during the information day organised by MEDIA (11 February 2013). New Eurimages Co-Production Development Award dedicated to documentaries

11/02/2013 – The Eurimages Fund has the pleasure to announce the creation of a new Eurimages Co-Production Development Award, a cash prize of 15,000 euros, dedicated to documentaries which will be given during CPH:DOX Copenhagen Int Documentary Festival in the framework of CPH:FORUM (next edition on 13-15 November 2013 www.cphdox.dk). Eurimages Co-Production Development Award in Rotterdam

31/01/2013– The Jury of the 30th edition of CineMart which took place at the IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam) from 27 to 30 January 2013 gave the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award (€30,000) for the Best CineMart 2013 Project with a European partner to Jätten (The Giant) by Johannes Nyholm [pictured], a co-production of BeoFilm Productions (Denmark) and Garagefilm International (Sweden).
The jury composed of Olivier Père (Head of Cinema) from ARTE France Cinéma, Annamaria Lodato (Head of Communications) from ARTE France, Petri Kemppinen (Board member) from Eurimages, Himesh Kar (Consultant) and Amy Richardson (Project Coordinator) from WorldView highlighted: “A project of a talented filmmaker who is about to make a leap from widely appreciated short films to his first fiction that will be a tender melodrama.”
CineMart was the first platform of its kind to offer filmmakers the opportunity to launch their ideas to the international film industry and to find the right connections to get their projects financed. Launching about 35 new projects in need of additional financing, CineMart also heralds an important start of the 'film year'.


Love wins Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film

14/01/2013 – During the 70th Golden Globes ceremony which took place last night in Bervely Hills, the co-production Love (FR, AT, DE) – supported by Eurimages – by Michael Haneke, was awarded Best Foreign Language Film. Eurimages on its way to the Oscars...

11/01/2013 – Nominations for the 85th Academy Awards have been announced: Europe is in the spotlight with no less than 5 nominations for the film Love (FR, AT, DE) – supported by Eurimages – by Michael Haneke which appears in the categories of Best Film, Director, Original Screenplay, Actress (Emmanuelle Riva) and Best Foreign Language Film. Two other Eurimages supported films are listed in this last category: Kon-Tiki (NO, SE, DK) by Espen Sandberg & Joachim Ronning and A Royal Affair (DK, SE, CZ, IE, LV) by Nikolaj Arcel. Twelve Eurimages supported films have been submitted for nominations for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award.
