The Council of Europe has announced the appointment of Laurent Ledoux as Director General of Administration. He will take up the post on 1 November.

In this role Laurent Ledoux will support Secretary General Alain Berset in advancing the reform process launched in July. The Directorate General of Administration will play a key role in this effort, and in ensuring that its services and resources effectively serve its priorities. He will also assist the Secretary General in defining other strategic objectives and priorities for the Council of Europe.

As part of his new role, Mr Ledoux will be responsible for the provision of essential administrative and general services needed to carry out the Organisation’s activities, with a concern for innovation, client orientation, sustainability and cost-efficiency.

Institutions deliver when people are supported

Speaking following his appointment, Laurent Ledoux said, “I am honoured to join the Council of Europe at a moment when its mission of human rights, democracy and the rule of law matters more than ever. Across more than 30 years in public administration, banking and civil society, I have seen that institutions deliver their best when the people inside them are trusted, well supported and given real responsibility. That is what I intend to bring to the administration of the Council, in the service of its 46 member states and of the colleagues who carry out its work.”

Laurent Ledoux, a Belgian national, has previously worked in senior positions in the Belgian public service and the European banking and media sectors. His new teams work across key areas including human resources, information technology, general services, interpretation and event management, treasury, legal support, internal communication, procurement and finance. The Directorate General of Administration also contributes to the development of the Council of Europe’s governance system, including in the areas of ethics, data protection, internal control, risk management and business continuity.
