Launch of data collection guidelines and indicators on violence against women in the Republic of Moldova

On 3 October 2024, the National Agency for the prevention and combating of violence of the Republic of Moldova presented guidelines and indicators (compendium) on violence against women and domestic violence. Supported by the Council of Europe and UNFPA, the compendium was developed to enhance data collection, monitoring, and support policymaking in line with the Council of Europe Istanbul Convention

Accurate and systematic data collection on violence against women is important in the design of the policies and measures needed to protect and support victims and to eliminate violence against women and domestic violence. Furthermore, data collection and research are necessary to ascertain whether policies are working towards preventing and combating such violence. Viorica Timbalari, Director of the national agency for the prevention and combating of violence, highlighted: "The efficient functioning of public institutions relies on evidence-based policymaking. This compendium represents a crucial tool for ensuring that data on violence against women and domestic violence is harmonised and comparable across different sectors. Only through proper documentation of these issues can we implement effective policies and monitor their impact."

The initiative is part of the Council of Europe project Supporting the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in the Republic of Moldova
