This week is being held in Brussels the 40th Edition of the annual International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC).

The closed session, which gathers nearly a hundred data protection authorities, adopted in particular a Declaration on Ethics and Data Protection in Artificial Intelligence which endorses guiding principles to preserve human rights in the development of artificial intelligence.

The Council of Europe organises a side-event on the global data protection Convention: Convention 108+ . The modernised Convention is also presented in the Sofia session on the occasion of a panel specifically dedicated to Convention 108+, with participation of Maria Michaelidou, member of the Committee of the Convention (Cyprus).

The work of the Council of Europe in the field of artificial intelligence and data protection is being presented by Alessandro Manetelero (scientific expert, Politechnico) in the side-event on “AI, ethics and fundamental rights” organised by the civil society coalition “Public voice”.

Finally, the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Guido Raimondi, addresses the Plenary of the open Session (over 1000 participants) in a video interview, highlighting the relevance of the case-law of the Court in the discussions on ethics.
