On 21st March the Bureau of the Standing Committee to the Bern Convention met in Strasbourg for its first annual meeting for 2017.

The Bureau followed up on the decisions taken at the 36th Standing Committee meeting in November 2016 and monitored the progress towards the implementation of the 2017 Programme of Activities. It further debated a number of pending case-files submitted by citizens and NGOs, including 5 new complaints received in 2016 by the Secretariat to the Convention. The Bureau also reviewed the state of preparation of forthcoming events to take place this year on different issues such as Invasive Alien Species, biodiversity and Climate change, Illegal killing of birds and the conservation of amphibians and reptiles.
