Visit by the Geneva Registry of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal to the Administrative Tribunal of the Council of Europe

20.07.2017 - From 28 to 30 June 2017, the Administrative Tribunal of the Council of Europe was visited by a delegation from the Geneva Registry of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal.

During the visit, the delegation held exchanges with the judges and members of the Registry on the working methods and case law of the two tribunals. In addition, the delegation attended a hearing and met lawyers from the Directorate of Legal Advice and Public International Law (which is tasked with representing the Secretary General before the Tribunal), as well as the Chair of the Staff Committee; it also gathered information on the working methods of the European Court of Human Rights and its case law relating to international civil service.

The visit took place as part of the co-operation between international tribunals initiated by the Administrative Tribunal of the Council of Europe. Any other sister tribunal wishing to participate in an exchange visit between registries or any other body wishing to undertake a visit may contact the Registry of the Administrative Tribunal of the Council of Europe in order to agree arrangements for the visit.

Adjournment of a Hearing of the Administrative Tribunal

27.06.2017 - The public hearing in appeals Nos. 571-578/2017 - James BRANNAN and others v. Secretary General scheduled on 29 June 2017 has been adjourned for reasons of “force majeure”. The new date will be indicated later.

The hearing in appeals Nos. 579-580/2017 - Zeki UYSAL and Sibel DEMİR SALDIRIM v. Secretary General was held before the Administrative Tribunal on 29 June 2017 at 10.15 am in the Tribunal’s hearing room in D building and was chaired by Mr Christos ROZAKIS, Chair of the Tribunal.

Proceedings of the international colloquy "Common focus and autonomy of International Administrative Tribunals" (Strasbourg, 19-20 March 2015)

06.04.2017 - On 19-20 March 2015 the Administrative Tribunal of the Council of Europe held a colloquy to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The tribunal wished to mark this anniversary by bringing together many members from other similar tribunals and practitioners in this field of law, in order to hold an exchange on the current situation in international administrative justice. Indeed, during the last 50 years the world of such tribunals has not only expanded, but also changed significantly.

The Proceedings of the colloquy are now published on the website of the Tribunal. (PDF file).

12.06.2017 - First High-Level Seminar on International Administrative Tribunals - An in depth discussion on Institutional and Jurisprudence issues (14-15 September 2017, Legraina/Sounio, Greece)

The seminar will focus on exchange of views among judges and registrars of international tribunal and courts of justice competent to deal with staff-relatd disputes and should contribute to a better understanding and functioning of those involved in the emergence of the international public service law.

The Administrative Tribunal of the Council f of Europe (ATCE), previously named the Council of Europe Appeals Board until 5 April 1994, is an international administrative court competent to hear complaints of the serving and former staff members of the Council of Europe against their employer. The Tribunal was established in 1965 and is based in Strasbourg, in France, where are located the Council of Europe’s headquarters.
