At a side event of the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026 in Gdańsk, the Council of Europe reaffirmed the vital importance of children’s rights in Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction process. Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, Special Envoy of the Secretary General on the Situation of Children of Ukraine, opened by stating that protection, recovery and long-term wellbeing remain at the centre of international efforts for Ukraine.
The event also highlighted the Consultation Group on the Children of Ukraine (CGU) and its critical work addressing key issues such as risks of trafficking, access to inclusive education, psychological support, trauma-informed care, preconditions for the safe return from member states, and accountably efforts.
