A public discussion on “Safety and protection of journalists: sharing standards and addressing common challenges” will be organised on 16 December 2021 - 09:30, at the premises of Hotel Tirana International - Balsha Room. The event will gather journalists, Members of the Parliament, senior representatives of the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, equality bodies, and civil society to discuss key challenges surrounding the protection of journalists and important safeguards for journalistic work.
Opening remarks will be made by the European Union Ambassador in Albania, H.E. Luigi Soreca and the Head of the Council of Europe Office, Jutta Gützkow. Keynote speaker of the event will be Matthew Caruana Galizia, the son of murdered Maltese journalist, Daphne Caruana Galizia, followed by an open discussion.
This activity is organised by ‘Res Publica’ Centre with the support of the action on “Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in Albania” (JUFREX 2), part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
