A selected group of 11 lawyers of the Bar Association of Albania are trained on the European standards on freedom of expression and the media as set by European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) and related case-law. National legal framework and jurisprudence were used to examine the application of these standards by national courts. They will enlarge the pool of certified local trainers who would then train their peers through a system of cascade training.
Lawyer participants were trained on an interactive training methodology prepared under the Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in Albania (JUFREX) Action, including group work case analysis, discussions and presentations. They received the trainer Handbook in Albanian language and resource materials developed by the Action.
The chairman of the Bar Association, Maksim Haxhia, praised the longstanding collaboration with of the Action, which is in its fifth year and has supported the training in freedom of expression for hundreds of lawyers in the country.
The training was supported by European Union and Council of Europe joint project "Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Media in Albania (JUFREX)”, part of the larger initiative of the European Union and Council of Europe's Horizontal Facility II.
