The first Training of Trainers on Freedom if Expression gathering legal professionals (judges, prosecutors and lawyers) certified as trainers in the area of freedom of expression during the first phase of JUFREX Action, took place online on 09 October 2020 in Pristina. The online training was facilitated and delivered by local short –term consultant.
The main purpose of this event was to bring together the already trained trainers to discuss the new updated Handbook on Freedom of expression. The updated Handbook contains new modules and updated case law from the European Court of Human Rights. Moreover, the legal professionals had the opportunity to discuss the main thematic areas on freedom of expression, international instruments (European Convention on Human Rights, Universal declaration), the domain of freedom of expression, the role of media and the role of judges/prosecutor, followed by a case study on defamation. In addition, the participants learnt about the tools developed under JUFREX 2 such as HELP course on FoE and Safety of Journalists.
During the second part of the training the participants had the opportunity to discuss and analyze the content of the new and updated modules and addendums of the Handbook followed by a case study on safety of journalists.
The event was organized by the Academy of Justice in coordination with the Action, Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Media in Kosovo* (JUFREX 2), part of the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey II”, a co-operation initiative co funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
