MEDIA ADVISORY: Public debate on the draft Law on Academic Integrity launched in Montenegro

The Ministry of Education has launched a public debate around the draft Law on Academic Integrity prepared by the Working Group. This public debate will be organised through the collection of suggestions/comments on the draft law and the holding of a series of roundtables. The roundtables will invite opinions from the citizens of Montenegro in particular the academic community, students, policy makers, civil society, and media.

The Law on Academic Integrity will be a unique piece of legislation that deals with the academic integrity on exclusive basis, the first of its kind in Europe. The European Union and Council of Europe Horizontal Facility Action “Strengthen Integrity and Combat Corruption in Higher Education” provided technical assistance in developing the draft law. Specifically, technical assistance was requested by Montenegro to support the country’s efforts to put in place an effective framework of academic integrity that is in compliance with relevant international standards, with a special emphasis on plagiarism.

The first roundtable will take place in Podgorica. The event will start at 11:00 am on Wednesday, 30 May 2018, at the Hilton hotel in Podgorica. The event is fully open to the media. Press statements will be given upon request. Keynote speakers will include: Damir Sehovic, Minister of Education and Angela Longo, Head of Operations, Council of Europe Programme Office in Podgorica.

Additional roundtables will be held on 31 May in Niksic (hotel "Jugoslavija") and on 1 June in Budva (hotel "Budva"). Both events will start at 11:00 am.
