Academic integrity to be discussed at the conference in Becici

On Tuesday and Wednesday, 16 and 17 May 2017, the conference “Academic integrity - Achievements and future perspectives of Montenegro” will take place at Iberostar Bellevue hotel in Becici, Budva. The event will be organised under the initiative of the action “Strengthening Integrity and Combating Corruption in the Higher Education” under the large EU–Council of Europe programme ‘Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey’.

The focus of the conference is to share experiences and good practices in addressing academic misconduct, ethical standards in higher education, as well as policy frameworks with an aim of support to strengthening a culture of integrity among teachers, students and staff of the higher education institutions in Montenegro.

The platform for the discussion is the approach, highly used by ETINED platform (Pan-European Platform on Ethics, Transparency and Integrity in Education), according to which integrity is essentially seen as the connection between positive ethical principles and quality in education. Distinguished ETINED specialists, experts from the region and the EU countries will give presentations and discuss these issues through panel sessions and intensive interaction both with national stakeholders and guests from the region.

The conference will also provide an opportunity to assess the impact of the relevant policies and practices at national level, identify gaps, and propose an adequate model based on the presented European and regional experiences and good practices. The intention is to produce conclusions, summing up the presentations and the debates, thus creating a basis for follow up actions by all concerned.

Speakers at the opening session will include Radmila Vojvodic, Rector of the University of Montenegro, Mubera Kurpejović, Director General of the Directorate for Higher Education in the Ministry of Education, and Vesna Atanasova, Programme Manager of the Education Department of Council of Europe.  This event will bring together national representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science, the University of Montenegro, the Agency for Anti-Corruption, higher education institutions, education policy and research institutes, experts, academics, international organisations/donors in Montenegro as well as other relevant stakeholders.

The conference will start at 14:00 on Tuesday, 16 May 2017, at the Iberostar Bellevue hotel in Becici, Budva. Language regime: English-Montenegrin with simultaneous interpretation. The event is fully open to the media. Press statements will be given upon request.
