Fifth Steering Committee meeting of the action “Accountability and professionalism of the judicial system in Montenegro”

The fifth Steering Committee meeting of the joint European Union and Council of Europe action “Accountability and professionalism of the judicial system in Montenegro” took place on 19 July 2021 in a form of an online meeting.

The meeting brought together distinguished members of the Steering Committee - judges and state prosecutors, representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, Ministry of Justice, Human and Minority Rights, Judicial Council, Prosecutorial Council, notaries, mediators, lawyers, court experts and interpreters and public bailiffs, as well as action team members. The purpose of the meeting was to review the results achieved in the period February - July 2021 and to discuss proposed activities for the upcoming six months.

The members of the Steering Committee discussed the results related to expert review of professional appraisal of state prosecutors, enhancing mediators' professionalism and strengthening the accountability of independent legal professions. The positive developments in strengthening the co-ordination and communication among the key stakeholders were highlighted as well.

The action “Accountability and professionalism of the judicial system in Montenegro” is part of the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey II”, a joint European Union/Council of Europe programme implemented by the Council of Europe to enables the Beneficiaries to implement reform agendas in the fields of human rights, rule of law and democracy and to comply with the European standards.
