MONEYVAL carries out evaluation visit to San Marino

A team of evaluators from the Council of Europe's Committee of Experts for the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism (MONEYVAL) carried out an onsite visit to San Marino from 28 September to 9 October 2020.

The on-site visit is being held in the framework of a mutual evaluation aimed at assessing compliance of San Marino with international standards in the area of anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT), in particular the 40 Recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

The evaluation team was composed of MONEYVAL experts with a legal, law enforcement and financial background and supported by members of the MONEYVAL Secretariat. The evaluators were received by the Head of San Marino Financial Intelligence Unit, by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance, and by the Captains Regent. They also met with criminal justice and operational agencies, financial and non-financial sector bodies and supervisors. Several meetings were held with private sector representatives (e.g. financial institutions, notaries, lawyers, real estate agents and casinos) and representatives from non-profit organisations.

The report will be scheduled for discussion and adoption at MONEYVAL’s 61st Plenary meeting: 26 – 30 April 2021.
