As part of the 6th round of mutual evaluations, a team of assessors from the Council of Europe's Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism (MONEYVAL) carried out an on-site visit to Albania from 14 to 24 April 2026.
The main purpose of this mutual evaluation is to assess the effectiveness of the country’s implementation of the international standards on anti-money laundering, countering the financing of terrorism and countering proliferation financing, in line with the revised FATF Methodology and Standards.
The assessment team is composed of MONEYVAL experts with legal, financial and law enforcement experience, assisted by members of the MONEYVAL Secretariat.
At the opening of the on-site visit, the Deputy Prime Minister of Albania, Ms Albana Koçiu expressed the high-level political commitment to implement and continue improving Albania’s anti money laundering, countering the financing of terrorism and countering proliferation financing framework.
During the visit, MONEYVAL assessment team met with representatives of relevant Albania’s key agencies, including ministries, criminal justice, law enforcement and supervisory authorities, and other operational agencies. The meetings were also held with representatives of the private sector, including banks and other financial institutions, notaries, lawyers, casinos, real estate agents and non-profit organisations.
The report is scheduled for discussion and adoption at the MONEYVAL plenary meeting in December 2026.
