To mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, observed on 17 October, the Conference of INGOs of the Council of Europe invites you to join a short commemorative ceremony on Tuesday 13 October 2026 at 5:00 pm, on the forecourt of the Council of Europe.
The ceremony will honour the victims of poverty and reaffirm the Council of Europe’s commitment to combating poverty, notably through the implementation of social rights in its member States. The Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Tanja Gonggrijp, will intervene at the gathering.
The 2026 thematic focus, “Safe Homes for All”, highlights the essential role of access to safe and adequate housing in the fight against poverty.
Also taking place in Strasbourg: From 6:30 to 8:00 pm, Olivier de Schutter, membre du Comité européen des droits sociaux au Conseil de l’Europe, will present his graphic novel La fabrique de la pauvreté at Librairie La Tache Noire, 1 rue de Zurich (entrance via Quai des Bateliers).
