We are deeply concerned by the arrest on 4 August 2025 at the Ankara airport, of Enes Hocaoğulları, a human rights activist and a youth delegate to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
It is especially disturbing that legal actions are being taken against a human rights activist for statements he made in a body of the Council of Europe notably in respect of the arrest of mayors and demeaning procedures against young protesters in Türkiye and that he and his civil society organisation even became the target of a defamation campaign for their LGBTQI+ advocacy work.
