Woman at War was awarded the Lux Prize yesterday; this film directed by Benedikt Erlingsson (picture) is a Eurimages-supported co-production between Iceland, France and the Ukraine. It was selected in the Cannes Film Festival’s Critics week in May where it won the SACD prize and it also won the Nordic Council Film Prize in October. This film will represent Iceland in the Best Foreign-language film category for the Oscars. The message is clear: we must act urgently to protect our planet”, declared the president of the Parliament, Antonio Tajani, in the hemicycle in Strasbourg. He stressed that the three finalists’ films all focused on the “stories of strong women determined to change things”. The other two runners-up, Styx by Wolfgang Fischer (Germany, Austria) and the documentary The Other Side of Everything by Mila Turajlić (France, Serbia, Qatar) have also been supported by the Eurimages Fund.
