At its 157th meeting held from 9 to 12 December 2019 in Berlin, the Board of Management of the Council of Europe's Eurimages Fund agreed to support 15 fiction films and one documentary project for a total amount of €3,399,600.
The share of eligible projects with female directors examined at this Eurimages Board of Management meeting was 14.71%; 18.75% of the projects supported were directed by women; €764 000 was awarded to these projects, representing 22.47% of the total amount awarded.
The Eurimages Fund commissioned an external evaluation of its activities in 2018, the recommendations of which were examined in 2019 by the Eurimages Board of Management. In their report, the evaluators encouraged Eurimages to start reflecting on the support for the distribution and promotion on video-on-demand platforms of the films supported under its co-production support programme, while also recalling that the Fund's statutory texts would make it possible to envisage the financing of fiction for television.
In the light of this evaluation and having identified the TV series sector as essential for the audiovisual industry in its member States, Eurimages and the Directorate General of Democracy of the Council of Europe commissioned a study by external consultants on the possibilities for Council of Europe intervention in the TV series production and distribution sector. These possible interventions could be carried out through the intermediary of the Eurimages Fund or not. The final report prepared by the consultancy firms Peacefulfish (DE) and Digital Media Finland (FI) - selected following a call for tenders - was submitted on 6 December 2019 and examined by the Eurimages Management Committee at its December meeting.
